Ingredients toor daal 1cup (soak for 8 hrs with a little sea weed, rinse it and cook until soft) turnip 4no. tomato 1no. hing a small pinch curry leaves 1strand cumin seeds 1/2 sp mustard seeds 1/4 sp turmeric 1/4 sp red chilli 1no. jaggery small lemon size tamarind as much as you need for sourness cilantro leaves 1/4 cup salt to taste oil or ghee which ever you prefer.
Preparation Toor Daal is cooked until soft and then add the turnips that is cut in small cubes and cook them together for 5-7 min. Then add the tomato and cook for 2 min, later add the tamarind, jaggery and salt and let it mix well and let it simmer for 2 min. In a separate bowl, place some oil and heat it once the oil is heated add the hing,mustard, cumin seeds, turmeric, red chilli and curry leaves once it's roasted well and you hear the popping sounds, add it to the sambhar and garnish it with cilantro leaves. Serve it hot with rice.
